Hoopin

Basketball is a team sport.  There are two teams playing at all times and there are five people from each team that are playing for the teams.  Basketball is played on an even surface generally called the “court”.  Both teams play with a basketball which is a circular shaped sphere made of leather and air is pumped inside it to give the object the ability to bounce.  The ball weighs 20-22 ounces and has a 29.5-30 inch circumference.  The game also uses a rim and backboard.  The rim is circle that allows the basketball to go through and is bigger than the ball.  The rim has an eighteen inch diameter and is ten feet above the ground.  The backboard is an assistant to help the basketball get through the rim.  The backboard is rectangular shape and four feet in length and 3 feet in width.  The main objective of the game is out score your opponent before the time runs out.  There are two sides:  Offense and Defense.  The offensive player’s objective is to find the most efficient or any way to put the basketball through the rim.  The offensive team may run a set play to give them the edge over the defense that will allow them to score easy.  The offensive player with the ball generally has three major options: pass, shoot, dribble (not necessarily in that order).  The defensive player’s objective is to stop the offense from scoring.  This team may different formations that may hinder the offense.  To stop the offensive team from scoring the defensive team can steal the ball, block a shot the offensive player puts it, and rebound the ball after a missed shot.

blog

Everyone knows that a good amount of sleep is vital and sometimes I try to squeeze as much as possible into a day and forget the importance of rest.  It turns out there is a simple rule for how much sleep you should get and several reasons as to why it is so important.

First of all it is important that you understand that according to Melinda Smith, M.A., Lawrence Robinson, and Robert Segal, the authors of How Much Sleep Do You Need? Sleep Cycles and Stages, Lack of Sleep and Getting the Hours you Need, the quality of your sleep directly affects the quality of your waking life, including your mental sharpness, productivity, emotional balance, creativity, physical vitality, and even your weight.” To reap these positive benefits of sleep you must get a proper amount of sleep and an efficient sleep cycle so your brain can get the time it needs to restore your body.  A person’s average sleep needs, according to their age, are displayed in the table below.

Average Sleep Needs
Age
Hours
Newborns (0-2 months)
12 - 18
Infants (3 months to 1 year)
14 - 15
Toddlers (1 to 3 years)
12 - 14
Preschoolers (3 to 5 years)
11 - 13
School-aged children (5 to 12 years)
10 - 11
Teens and preteens (12 to 18 years)
8.5 - 10
Adults (18+)
7.5 - 9
§                                                                                                                                                       So we know how important sleep is and we know how many hours we are meant to sleep every night.  However, people don’t get enough sleep a lot of the time and don’t realize they are sleep deprived so the question is how do you know if you are sleep deprived? According to previously listed article, you may be sleep deprived if you “need an alarm clock in order to wake up on time, rely on the snooze button, have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, or feel sluggish in the afternoon.”  They also mention that if you “get sleepy in meetings, lectures, or warm rooms, get drowsy after heavy meals or when driving, need to nap to get through the day, fall asleep while watching TV or relaxing in the evening, feel the need to sleep in on weekends, or fall asleep within five minutes of going to bed” you may be sleep deprived.
In conclusion, if you are not getting at least around the average sleep needs of your age group and you show any of the mentioned signs of sleep deprivation, be sure to re-establish your sleep-cycle so your body gets the time it needs to recover from the day.

The universe

The universe.  It is a region with vast unknowns.  People have many opinions, beliefs, accusations, but I am certain that no one truly knows its boundaries.  Scientists and physicists have many theories on have the universe all began, starting with the big bang theory.  Scientists say, eons and eons ago, the universe started as just one atom or particle.  The object exploded created this region of space following the explosion and kept increasing, spreading out without termination.  They called this the “red shift” of the universe for where you can see visible movement of stars and galaxies, because there is visible red light.  They aren’t sure what caused this exploded or happening but it is just a situation that occurred for the natural being.  The universe is commonly defined as the totality of everything that exists, including all matter and energy, the planets, stars, galaxies, and contents of intergalactic space.  Everything in the universe is made of atoms.  Atoms are very small particles that are comprised of protons (positively charged particles), neutrons (no charged particles), electrons (negatively charged particles), and the electron cloud, where this is just the space the electrons travel.  At the center of the atom are the protons and neutrons and this region is called the nucleus and it is positively charged.  The electron cloud is the area where the electrons flow and it is negatively charged.  They are equal number of protons and electrons in an atom to make an atom neutral charged for if it was not the atom will become heighten or excited and will find any way possible to become neutral again.  All around in this universe is energy.  Everything has energy or has the potential of energy.  There are two types of energy and many forms of energy.  The two types are kinetic and potential energy, where the kinetic energy is energy in motion so to speak, and the potential energy is energy that has potential to be kinetic energy.  The forms of energy are:  heat or thermal, chemical, electrical, electrochemical, electromagnetic which is light, sound, and nuclear energy.  The universe is a very big place and has many knowns and unknowns to mankind.  I’m sure one day we will find out how big the place we will live in.

Life

Life.  What is life?  Life is a characteristic that distinguishes that have signing and self-sustaining processes from those that do not, because they lack such ways and are classified as inanimate objects.  They have the ability to grow, maintain homeostasis, undergo metabolism, respond to stimuli, reproduce, and adapt to their environment when generations succeed.  Many living organisms have ways of communication.  These means vary from organism to organism.  A good number of animals communicate verbally which means they use their mouth to give some form of dialect to their recipient.  Humans have many ways of communication.  They collectively communicate verbally and emotionally.  They verbally communicate by a regular means of talking to one another, e.g. Bob says hi to sally.  Humans also emotionally communicate by showing body language.  If someone’s parental figure asked their children to do something for them and they didn’t want to do it, he or she would sign, shrug their shoulders, and do other means to effectively communicate they do not want to perform the action.  But life deals with more than just communication, it involves the senses:  sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell.  It has a varied of meanings, forms, ways of being perceived and much more.  It’s not an easy field of study; biology is a very intuitive field.

The state of being which begins with generation, birth, or germination, and ends with death; also, the time during which this state continues; that state of an animal or plant in which all or any of its organs are capable of performing all or any of their functions; -- used of all animal and vegetable organisms.

This says that living things have three stages: birth, the state of being alive, and then death and if it is perceived as life then it has the three stages and is classified as plant or animal.

Life is something that is truly unknown how it started, why it ends, it’s just something that is what it is.

Music with words

Music is a part of life.  Not just my life but everyone’s life.  In fact, music has been a part of everyone’s life forever- since the beginning of mankind. According to Mary Bellis, the author of the article “Inventing Musical Instruments,” “all cultures past and present have music.”  She continues to inform us that the "oldest known song" dates back 4,000 years ago and was written in ancient cuneiform.” The question: why is music so popular and why is it so important to us?  The answer: Music heals, positively effects the brain, improves physical performance, helps you work more productively, improves your mood and is calming.

Music undoubtedly soothes the mind and soul.  According to eMedExpert.com, Music helps reduce pain by “serving as a distractor, possibly giving the patient a sense of control, causing the body to release endorphins to counteract pain, and by relaxing a person by slowing their breathing and heartbeat.”   Apparently music can also lead to a secretion of immune-boosting hormones.  Furthermore, Music enhances you intelligence, attention, and memory.  The article on eMedExpert.com tells us that music also enhances “reading and literacy skills, spatial-temporal reasoning, mathematical abilities and your emotional intelligence.” Finally, music aids in physical relaxation, stress relief activities, and reducing negative emotions.

Music is also beneficial physically.  Your athletic performance, body movement, and coordination can also be aided with music by reducing fatigue, increasing your physiological relaxation or arousal, and improving motor coordination.  In terms of fatigue, music can effectively eliminate exercise or monotonous work induced fatigue.  Finally, according to a report in the journal Neuroscience of Behavior and Physiology, a person's ability to recognize visual images, including letters and numbers, is faster when either rock or classical music is playing in the background.

Enjoyment.  That is the key to why music is so valued.  However, as you can see, there are literal benefits and explanations as to why music is so enjoyable and beneficial in the first place- it doesn’t help us get by every day for no reason.

Strange sex laws

In Romboch, Virginia, it is illegal to do it with the lights on.  The only reason why I say this would be a law is because others would feel awkward if they happened to look through a window and witness a man and a woman having sex.  Sure they would be weird to catch a glimpse of that but I don't think it should be a law though.  That was a waste of time and effort for people to vote on it.  Oral sex is illegal in 18 states.  Again, why was time and effort been put into this.  Apparently the representatives of those states preferred not have oral sex and agreed to the fact that it was bad.  Interestingly enough, it was passed as a law.  I'm sure the only reason why only executive order would sign such a law, would to continue getting support from the legislative order.  In Newcastle, Wyoming, it is illegal to have sex standing up in a walk-in meat freezer.  I'm not sure why people would do this anyway let alone become a law.  I'm guessing, they decided the meat could be contaminated with sexual odors that lingered in the air.  Another possible reason could be the people could catch a disease and become a fatal event.  Another weird sex law is at hand.  It is illegal for a man's erection to show through his clothing in 18 states.  If a little child saw this and asked his or her parents that is, it could lead to an awkward conversation between the two.  Personally, I'd just laugh and walk away ignoring the fact that he or she saw a man's erection.  I suppose the authorities found it necessary to put for such a law because it was indirectly obscene exposure.  Only he's really not exposing himself, just not directly.  In Connorsville, Wisconsin, a man cannot shoot off a gun when his lady has an orgasm.  I find this law very depressing, because maybe it is hard to make your woman have an orgasm and when she does, you will know.  I suppose maybe the gun shot is too loud and has sounds of violence therefore may not be good for the neighbors.  But If I was in this situation I would just be chill about it.  Because.  "Every great man knows if you accomplish something extraordinary, you act like you done it before."  -Marcus Mapp

Gravity

Gravity is a force that acts on a system of bodies that is proportional to their masses but the force grows weaker as the square of the distance between the center of the system of bodies increases.  It is a physical force.  Yes.  It exists.  But we truly don't know why it exists.  There are pros and cons to gravity.  Like if one were to jump up in the air it would be bad if he/she would keep going and eventually leave the atmosphere and suffer consequences.  But at the same time if you falling and did not have any way to slow yourself down that could be a problem also.  Gravity is one of the four fundamental forces.  It plays a part in Einstein's general theory of relativity.  For a body that produces x amount of gravity it causes a dent is the space-time continuum. Also Newton described it as Newton's law of universal gravitation which it states that every point mass in the universe attracts every other point with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.  The force of gravity is very unique and is different at different parts of the universe.  For the force of gravity determined by the mass and distance.  Here on earth the force of gravity is 9.81 m/s^2.  That is how fast you will accelerate if you were to drop towards the center of earth if dropped from a given height.  If you wanted to calculated the force of gravity that the earth is producing on you would multiply the earth's mass, your mass, the gravitational constant k, then divide the distance between the two of you.
